PEOPLES CHURCH
(APOSTOLIC)
Peoples Church is not your average Apostolic church. In 2002, Prophet Michael had a vision from God, and saw the future storefront location of Peoples Church with an interracial congregation worshiping God in the Holy Ghost. In fullfillment of this prophecy, Peoples Church was founded in 2005 as a mission to the impoverished east side of Springfield,Illinois. The worship is lively Pentecostal style, in an informal setting. There is strong emphasis on faith healing, and the gifts of the Spirit, including speaking in tongues. Unlike other Apostolic churches, the main worship service is held on the biblical fourth commandment, seventh day, (Saturday) sabbath, rather than the traditional Catholic/Protestant Sunday holiday. Peoples Church is a peace church, holding to the belief that issues of life and death should be left only in the hand of God. This results in our opposition to abortion, capitol punishments, and all wars. We hold the 1611 King James Bible to be Gods infallible, inerrant word. We are on a mission from God. It is our desire to eventually have the doors open every day for community activities/service, or worship.

CURRENT MINISTRIES

- Acoustic Worship With Prophet Michael. This is Peoples Church main weekly worship service, held at 3pm on the Bible (Saturday) sabbath. Please join us to sing, dance, and praise God in the Spirit. Bring the sick and needy for healing and prayer. Prophet Michael will give a word from God as led by the Holy Ghost.

-Peoples Prayer Brunch. 2:30 pm Saturdays, preceding the regular weekly worship service
-Food Not Bombs. This is part of a worldwide movement. It is a threefold ministry of peaceable eating. 1. A gathering of friends. 2. A vegi meal of nothing killed. 3. the food is free. We celebrate Food Not Bombs 8pm Friday nights at Peoples Coffeehouse.
-Peoples Coffeehouse. This is a community event held every Friday evening from 8-midnight. A simple coffee/snack bar will be open with self service and snacks donated by the participants, and church. Internet access is available.From 8-9pm Peoples Coffeehouse hosts "Socrates Cafe" philosophical discussion group. Look it up on the Internet. It's a worldwide movement. This is the only such group meeting in the area. We were recently visited by the leader of a long standing Socrates Cafe from another city who spoke very highly of our new group. It is open to all, and requires no preparation. Help us revive the lost art of conversation. Amatur philosophers, theologeons, and comedians welcome.  Then from 9-midnight Live Poets Society brings an OPEN MIC for poetry, music (loud is discouraged), and spoken word. Step right up to the mic with originals, your favorites of others, or just relax and listen. All evening enjoy hanging out with friends, playing table games, or pondering the mysteries of life. Peoples Coffeehouse is a community event, and is not limited to gospel discussions, poetry, and music. The purpose of Peoples Coffeehouse is to provide a weekly alcohol-free cultural event for the community, at no cost, to accommodate poor people.
-GROW. This is a weekly 12-step support group for mental health issues, emotional problems, or difficulties dealing with life circumstances. It is free, anonymous, and open to the public. It meets every Thursday from 3-5pm. For more info call Lisa 622-7953. Rides available.
-Nursing Home Ministry. .2pm, every 2nd Monday at Regency, 2120 West Washington St.

-Youth Worship, with sister Cheryl, youth pastor, 7pm every Thursday. phone 217-753-4619 for  info.

-Martial Arts for fun and fitness, 6-7pm Thursdays.Low impact, good for women, seniors, or youth (with participating adult only) Jason Service and Michael Wiggins, black belt instructors.
-Environmental Ministry . This ministry led by environmentalist Theron Vlahon, is committed to cleaning up the world, one mile at a time. The litter pick-up project needs volunteers from the church and community. Call Theron at 899-5113.

-Television Broadcast, 10:30am,4:30pm, and 10:30pm Sundays, cabel access channel 4

FUTURE MINISTRIES                                     
    - Support Our Prisoners. A support group to help the over two million prisoners in American prisons and jail                 
-Bus Ministry. Driver/minister needed to find riders and give rides to sabbath (Saturday) worship. Van available.      

           -Smoking cecession program

           -East Side Neighborhood Association.

           -Mid-week Bible Study/Worship

           -Store shuttle, for poor w/o transportation. 3rd of the month
